Why is AGRONOMIC LAWN MANAGEMENT'S (ALM's) way of seeding the most effective way to seed?

The old adage you get what you pay for is never more true than when you are comparing ways to seed your yard.  There are a few different methods that can be used.

1.  Cheap & Easy Method

  • You simply buy the seed and you spread it over the ground

  • RESULTS:  0-10% Germination, due to very poor seed-to-soil contact.

2.  aeration & seeding method

  • Involves either renting an aerator or hiring someone who has one.  The seed is spread and the machine is run across the yard.  The machine has tines and pull a small hole (plug) out of the soil every 4 inches.

  • RESULTS:  0-45% Germination (Better), but still poor seed-to-soil contact.

3.  slit seeding (ALM's) METHOD

  • Seed is spread and then a machine with tempered steel knives is run across the yard that cuts grooves 1/4" to 1" deep and about 1" apart.  This does not affect the appearance of the yard.  This process disturbs much more soil and gives better seed-to-soil contact.  It also removes any unwanted thatch thus eliminating the need to ever de-thatch your lawn.

  • RESULTS:  70% germination guaranteed in conjunction with proper watering and our yearly Fairway Program.  Higher germination is achieved because of excellent seed-to-soil contact, making your lawn much thicker and giving you more for your money.
